Bio

My name is Stephanie. I'm really not very good at these personal blurb bits but I'll do my best. I will warn you - I talk, a lot. But if anyone ever wants to chat, or wants to know more about me, I'm happy to talk about whatever! My Journal is filled mostly with costume musings, travel experiences, and The Georgia Regency Society. I love meeting new people with the same interests as me so feel free to add me, just make sure to comment so I notice.

I'm the founder and organizer of the Georgia Regency Society, a historical reenactment group centered on the early 19th century. Besides the Website, we also have a Facebook Group, Blog, and a Live Journal Community -

I'm 24 from Kennesaw, Georgia - about 25 or so minutes north of Downtown of Atlanta (or Atlantis, depending on how much rain you got this past year). I am a double major university student, History and Technical Theater (Costuming). I come from a French/Irish background, which makes most days interesting, and I dye my hair red to match my personality. I love to travel, and have been a number of cool places - Japan, Hawaii, and Cozumel being three of my favorites. I have never been to Europe but I'm working on fixing that ASAP. I am a little bit of a huge nerd. I love science fiction/fantasy, especially the British Classic "Doctor Who." Being with my friends makes me happier than words can say, and my three year old toy Pomeranian Hachi is the absolute love of my life, even though she's really just a cleverly disguised demon wrapped in fluff and an adorable face.

I have been sewing since I was a little girl, doll clothes, random squares of fabric, anything I could get my hands on and stitch together, but I didn't really get into sewing until I was about 12. I got my first sewing machine when I turned 15 and went from there. I think both my grandmothers knew how to sew, but I'm not sure. I am entirely self taught up to this point. As much as I complain when I mess up, I certainly learn well what doesn't work and what does and to not ever do the things that don't work again. My first project I ever did with my sewing machine, I tried to make a pair of bloomers for an anime costume. I use a simplicity pattern and I promise I followed the instructions to the letter, and yet somehow the waist was ten inches too small, the rear was a tent big enough for five circus acts, and the legs were too narrow. To this day I don't know how I managed that. I still stitch on whatever is in my hands, but now it's for things for me, and still a bit of doll clothes for the dolls I collect. I have a fatal addiction to beads, and I put them on anything if I have an excuse. I'm just learning embroidery and really quite love it. My next goal is to learn real knitting (I can make scarves on a knitting board but I'm told this is cheating) and learning to make my own lace and trim.

Costume Drama is really what got me jump started on wanting to do pretty, frilly dresses. I remember going to see Ever After when I was in middle school and all I did was stare at the dresses. Plot? What Plot? Who cares! SHE HAS BEADS ON HER DRESS. Though I will admit that when I was a child, my mother watching Pride and Prejudice, I didn't know what it was - I thought it was just another one of her soap operas and wanted absolutely nothing to do with it. Now that I've grown up a little and have since read the novels by Jane Austen(discovered those in sixth grade and never looked back) I totally get where she was coming from.

I like costumes of all sorts really (my favorite event of the year is a science fiction convention in Downtown Atlanta called Dragon*Con) but I tend to lean towards the historical. My favorite era depends entirely upon what my Costume ADD (or CADD) has me going "oh shiny!" over. This is also known as ADOS (Attention Deficit - Oh Shiny!) which I have in spades. We don't have a whole lot (that I've found anyway) in the way of historical events or costuming groups here in Atlanta so I go with what I can get. A lot of times I just make something because I want to, a purpose will roll around sooner or later... if not, well, no one can tell me I can't flounce around the house in a corset and pretty dress.

I attend renaissance festivals around the east coast and play various personas depending on where we are. My favorite of which is a Fire Fairy at the Kentucky Highlands Renaissance Festival known as "Synge." My best friend Amber plays a Water Fairy called "Ceryth" and we just love the excuse to goof off (any other time I'm playing the snooty duchess/lady/noble something or other and in real life I very much play by the rules and behave myself). It's something like being a princess at Disney Land, the way kids look at you - and it's addicting. I also have an Elizabethan Duchess and a 1300's French Baroness. I heard a saying once "I may only be a little girl once, but I'll love playing dress up forever" and I don't think any other statement fits me better than that.
